Floridan Aquifer Wells
To develop their water supply, Lake Worth implemented Floridan aquifer supply wells to maximize production flow rates while obtaining the best possible water quality. The design pumping rates for the wells, F-1, F-2 and F-3, are 1,500 gpm each. Well F-1 initially supplied raw water to Lake Worth’s Reverse Osmosis Pilot Plant skid but was later converted into a supply well as planned. To sipmplify future maintenance the wells were constructed with the complete wellheads, well pumps, valves, piping, and flow meter, all located above grade.
The wells were development using an improved jetting method as well as a unique dual stage acidization procedure that resulted in decreased SDI values and specific capacity improvements of up to 100%. These innovative procedures resulted in the highest yielding Floridan aquifer wells in Palm Beach County.
The wells were partially funded by SFWMD’s Alternative Water Supply Grant Program.
